By Jeff Cobb.  Last Updated on August 4, 2023

Teachery Monster Creating

The best online course platforms take care of all the technical stuff and allow you to focus on creating and selling your best content.

That’s precisely what Teachery does.

It’s one of the most visually appealing online course selling platforms with lots of great features and an affordable pricing plan designed for beginners.

But like any other product, Teachery also has a few weaknesses and is not suitable for every course creator.

So, here’s the million-dollar question: is Teachery the right online course platform for you?

In this detailed Teachery review, I’ll answer your question by giving you an in-depth analysis of the platform’s features, pricing, and overall pros and cons.

Let’s dive in.

Quick Verdict

If you don’t have time to read till the end but want to know if Teachery is right for you, here’s my quick verdict.

Teachery is a world-class product that offers all the necessary course creation and selling features for beginners at a very reasonable price.

However, advanced course sellers might find it a bit too simple for their liking.

So, if you’re new to selling online courses and looking for a pocket-friendly but feature-rich online course platform, Teachery is an excellent choice.

What Is Teachery?

Teachery homepage - The simplest course platform

Teachery is a beginner-friendly online course platform that helps you monetize your expertise and turn your expertise into sellable online courses.

Its co-founders, Jason Zook and Gerlando Piro are course sellers themselves and created Teachery to solve the most common problems beginner course creators face.

Have they succeeded in their mission? They’ve certainly made a promising start.

There’s a lot to like about Teachery.

It gives you all the necessary tools and features to get your first online course up and running in no time. You don’t need any technical skills at all to create and sell courses on Teachery.

It’s a user-friendly product with an eye-catching interface and easy drag & drop options to put together your online course.

It also offers an equally impressive experience to your students and allows them to learn in a pleasant and distraction-free environment.

Teachery is still an evolving product with lots of great features, but it’s primarily designed for beginners and intermediate course creators who do not require advanced features.

Let’s explore Teachery features in more detail to see what it offers.

Teachery Features | Everything You Need Selling Online Courses

Teachery offers all the essential course creation and selling features and several unique options that many other platforms don’t offer.

Here are some of them.

1. Sell Unlimited Courses to Countless Students

Teachery allows you to sell an unlimited number of courses, with unlimited lessons, to unlimited students.

Most other online course platforms offer limited courses and charge additional fees to extend the limit.

But Teachery doesn’t charge you by the number of courses, lessons, or students.

This means you can create as many courses as you want at the same monthly/annual fee. This also applies to the lessons and sub lessons in a course.

All your courses are listed on your account dashboard.

To create a new course, you simply need to click the Create new course button on your dashboard, fill in the details, and the course will be added to your list.

2. Customize the Look & Feel Of Your Course

Teachery comes with a flexible and fully customizable drag & drop course creator that you can use to edit the look & feel of your course.

From images and text content to colors and even border styles, you can change everything using this editor.

Teachery course page designer

All your content and changes are saved on the go, which means you don’t have to worry about losing your content if your browser crashes or the system goes off for some reason.

Since Teachery uses a standard text editor, you can use any language you want on your course page.

You also have the option to change the background color for every page, button styles & colors, and even use different colors for the sub lessons in your course.

You can edit the different pages in your course such as payments, lessons, sub lessons, landing pages, opt-in pages, etc., with this course editor.

Here are a few examples of the different course pages created with Teachery.

To help you set up your course faster, Teachery offers a couple of course page layouts.

  • Minimal Template: A more sleek, simple, and modern course layout
  • Sidebar Template: A boxier, more conventional course layout

Both the templates have the same technical features but offer two different styles of presenting your content.

You can choose them from the course creation page.

Overall, Teachery’s course editor is pretty impressive and gives you a lot of control over your course’s appearance.

3. Create Courses with Diverse Content

When it comes to creating the content of your course, Teachery gives you plenty of options.

You can use a combination of videos, audio, text, and presentations in the different lessons and sub lessons of your course.

However, Teachery doesn’t host any of your files. Instead, you can host your content on sites like YouTube, Video, Soundcloud, Slideshare, etc., and embed it to your course pages.

You can embed content by creating a new lesson block and copying your embed code to it.

Lesson Content Block

You can add as many content blocks as you want with different content types.

For example, after embedding a YouTube video, you can embed a presentation in the next content block or use it as an audio block.

Teachery claims that if you know how to send emails with Gmail, you can easily create a course with its course builder.

It’s that simple.

However, it is not as powerful or feature-rich as the course builders in other tools like Kajabi (Full Review), Thinkific (Full Review), or Teachable (Full Review).

4. Schedule Lessons With Drip Courses

One of the biggest challenges of a course creator is to ensure that their students consume the course content and complete all the lessons.

Drip courses solve this problem to a great extent.

In a drip course, your students get access to different lessons or modules after a fixed duration or after completing specific actions.

For example, instead of giving access to all the lessons in your course at once, you could drip the lessons on a monthly or weekly basis. Or only allow access to a new lesson when a student completes the previous one.

In Teachery, you can create drip courses from Lesson Drip Options in your main course editor.

As you can see, you can give access to your course content in three different ways.

  • All at once
  • On fixed dates
  • On previous lesson completion

You can also generate an automated email for your students every time a new lesson is available.

To create urgency in your students and persuade them to finish your course, you can also set an expiry date after which the course won’t be accessible.

These are handy options that give you greater control over how students access your content and impact your course’s completion rate.

5. Capture Leads and Customers With Landing Pages

When you create a new course in Teachery, it gives you three landing page categories by default.

  • Course pages
  • Payment pages
  • Login Pages
Landing page creator

Each page category has multiple pages with their own designs and structures.

For example, you’ll find separate pages for every lesson and sub lessons in the Course Pages category.

In the Payment Pages category, you’ll find the checkout page, payment confirmation page, successful payment page, unsuccessful payment page, etc.

But apart from these default pages, you can create new landing page categories and pages as well.

Using this option, you can create email opt-in pages, landing pages for your course, webinar pages, etc.

The landing page builder has the same options as the course builder but comes with an additional page template that you can use.

You can add/remove sections, change the background colors, header image, supporting images, and edit everything else on the page.

6. Integrate with Your Email Service Provider

If you want to collect emails and leads with landing pages or add customers to your email list via the payment pages, you can use Teachery’s email integrations.

Currently, Teachery only offers direct integration with Mailchimp and ConvertKit. You can access the integrations page from your dashboard → Account → Integrations.

E-mail provider integration

You’ll need to add the API Key of your email account to integrate it with Teachery.

Other than these two email services, you can integrate your Teachery account with several other email tools using Zapier integrations.

7. Recruit Affiliates to Grow Your Course Sales

If you want to grow your course sales fast, start an affiliate program that rewards people who refer students to you.

How do you recruit and manage affiliates for your course? By using Teachery’s affiliate management settings from your account dashboard.

Manage course affiliates in Teachery

To register an affiliate, simply add their PayPal address, enter their commission rate, and choose the relevant course.

Once you approve an affiliate, they’ll get an automated email with their unique tracking link and links to your landing pages.

8. Offer Flexible Payment Plans to Your Students

Want to increase your course sales?

Try offering multiple payment plans to your students.

In the course editor, you can choose one-time payments, installments, or recurring annual or monthly membership payments for every course.

This option comes in handy for higher-priced courses that students hesitate to buy in one go.

9. Host Your Courses on Custom Domains

Every Teachery course is hosted by default on a subdomain (your-domain-name.teachery.co).

However, you can choose to host your courses on custom domains as well. Just register a domain and link it with your course.

This way you can host every course on a separate custom domain and make it look more professional.

To start setting up your course, click Get Started.

Step 2: Create Your First Course

Teachery has one of the best customer onboarding processes in the online course industry.

It holds your hand and walks you through each step required to create your first course.

Start by naming your course.

What is the name of the course you want to build.

Next, briefly describe what your course is all about.

Now describe your awesome course in 1-2 sentence.

There you go, you’ve just created your first Teachery course.

Now let’s create its lessons.

Step 3: Create Your Course Lessons

Lessons are individual modules in a course that address a specific topic. There’s no limit to the number of lessons in a course, and you can even create sub lessons.

In the onboarding phase, Teachery helps you create the first three lessons, but you can add more later.

3 topics you'd discuss in your course.

After naming your lessons, describe them briefly.

Now, just write a sentence or two about each topic.

That’s it, you’ve successfully created the first three lessons of your course.

It’s now time to create your course content.

Step 4: Build Your Course Content

After you create the first three lessons of your course, you’ll be redirected to the course builder, where you can create new lessons, add your content, and customize the appearance of your course.

Course Pages

The menu on the left of your screen lists all the options like editing individual pages, course settings, styling options, etc.

To start building your content, open a lesson from your dashboard, and click on “Add course content block.”

Create a new Lesson

You can embed a video, presentation, or audio file in a content block, give it a title, and add a brief description.

A single lesson can contain as many content blocks as you want.

Step 5: Edit Your Course’s Appearance

You can also use the course builder to edit your course’s appearance.

You can change the header image, add your course logo, change the color theme, add custom text to your call-to-action buttons, etc.

Step 6: Set Up Your Stripe Account

To get paid by Teachery for your course sales, you need to set up a Stripe account and connect it with Teachery from the integrations page.

Integrations

Your students have the option to pay using a credit card in nine different currencies.

Teachery doesn’t support PayPal payments for now, but you can configure them using the Zapier-Teachery integration.

Congrats! You’re ready to start selling your online course with Teachery.

Teachery Pricing and Free Trial

Teachery offers two different paid plans and a 14-day free trial (no credit card needed.)

During the free trial, you can access all the premium features as well.

However, once the trial is over, you need to choose from one of these plans.

Teachery pricing

Both these plans offer the same features.

Teachery feature list

But if you opt for the annual plan, you’ll get a 20% discount on the total fee.

If you think $49/month or $470/year isn’t that cheap, you’re probably not considering the additional transaction fees that most other online course platforms charge apart from their monthly fees.

If your sales volume is high, transaction fees can add up to thousands of dollars every year.

With Teachery, you don’t have to worry about transaction fees.

Teachery doesn’t charge you any fees per sale, which means you can sell as many courses as you want at $49/month (the standard payment service fees still apply.)

This makes a massive difference to your cost in the long run.

Teachery Review: Pros and Cons

As you’ve seen so far in this post, Teachery covers most bases when it comes to selling online courses.

But like any other product, it has its strengths and weaknesses.

Before moving to our final verdict, let’s quickly analyze some of Teachery’s main pros and cons.

Teachery Pros

No Transaction Fees

As I mentioned in the pricing section, Teachery doesn’t charge you any transaction fees per sale. This instantly makes its pricing much more beginner-friendly and affordable as compared to the platforms that charge you transaction fees in addition to their monthly plan.

Attractive and Uncomplicated User Interface

I’m in love with Teachery’s user interface and overall user experience. It’s a colorful product that’s not only pleasing to the eye but also easy to use and navigate. Its drag & drop course builder and fully customizable pages give you complete control over your course’s appearance.

Beginner Friendly Onboarding Process

Teachery’s user onboarding process is one of the best in this industry. Even if you’ve never created a course in your life, Teachery walks you through all the steps and helps you get your course up and running as soon as possible. Plus, it offers detailed guidelines and helpful content at every stage of your journey.

Affordable Pricing Model

Teachery’s monthly and annual plans compare favorably with most of the other online course platforms. Zero transaction fees make it even better.

Templates for Different Page Types

In the course builder, you get templates for payment pages, email opt-in pages, and different course pages that you might require. All these templates are fully customizable and help you get started quickly when designing your course pages.

Excellent Customer Support

Teachery’s help documentation has tutorials about all its features and answers almost every popular question about the product. However, if you still need help, you can email them your question, and they’ll usually get back to you in 24 hours.

Teachery Cons

Not for Advanced Users

Teachery is an ideal product for beginner course creators. But it doesn’t offer many advanced features like email marketing, automation, detailed analytics, etc., that experienced course creators require.

Does Not Offer Content Hosting

Teachery doesn’t host any of your videos, presentations, or audio files. Instead, you need to host your files on other platforms and embed them into your Teachery course. Considering that most other online course platforms offer content hosting, this is a clear disadvantage of using Teachery.

Limited Email Service Integrations

Teachery directly integrates with MailChimp and ConvertKit only. If you’re using AWeber, ActiveCampaign, GetResponse, or any other email marketing service, you’ll need to use Zapier to integrate with Teachery.

No Quizzes, Surveys, And Certificates

Features such as quizzes, surveys, and course completion certificates increase the perceived value of a course and improve student engagement. Unfortunately, Teachery doesn’t offer any of them. This may be one of the biggest strikes against it.

Teachery Review: The Verdict

So, is Teachery worth using with all these pros and cons?

Here’s my verdict.

If you’re creating your first course, have a limited budget, or do not need advanced automation or email marketing, Teachery can be an excellent choice. It offers all the necessary course creation and marketing features at a pretty attractive price.

However, if you’re an experienced course creator looking to scale your business, have a large student base, or want advanced features such as automation, integrations, and analytics, Teachery might fall short of your expectations.

In short, Teachery is an ideal online course platform for beginners and intermediate course sellers.
