TL;DR: ScalaHosting Review | Is It the Right Host for Your Course or Coaching Business?
What it is: ScalaHosting is a web hosting company known for SPanel, its own control panel, and for affordable cloud plans with dedicated resources. It sells shared hosting, managed cloud servers and VPS hosting.
Who it’s for: Course creators, coaches, consultants and small businesses who want low-cost hosting now and an easy path to dedicated server power later.
Who it’s not for: Anyone who wants a host to manage every WordPress update for them, and buyers who need phone support.
Price: From $2.95/mo on a 36-month term, paid upfront. Renewal costs two to four times as much, so read the renewal section before you buy.
Standout feature: An anytime money-back guarantee, with a full refund in the first 30 days and a refund for unused time after that.
My verdict: ScalaHosting is a smart choice for course businesses that expect to grow, because its cloud plans give a WordPress course site dedicated resources for far less than managed hosting. Try ScalaHosting risk-free.
Most hosting companies make you choose between cheap shared hosting and expensive managed hosting.
I’ve used both.
Learning Revolution runs on WP Engine, a managed host, and I’ve hosted other sites on Bluehost, a budget host, since 2015. The gap between those two is wide, and many course businesses sit right in the middle of it.
ScalaHosting is built for that middle.
Its shared plans are priced like budget hosting, and its cloud plans give your site dedicated server power at a fraction of what managed WordPress hosts charge. It also offers something rare, a money-back guarantee that covers unused time well after the first month.
In this review, I’ll explain what ScalaHosting is, what each plan includes, what renewal costs, how SPanel and its AI assistant work and which plan fits a course seller, coach, consultant or small business.

Quick Verdict: Is ScalaHosting Worth It?
Yes, especially if you expect your site to grow. ScalaHosting’s shared plans include daily offsite backups, email and free migration, and its entry cloud plan gives a WordPress course or membership site its own processor and memory for a modest monthly price.
Go in knowing three things. The lowest price needs a 36-month upfront payment, and renewal costs two to four times as much. Support runs through chat, email and tickets, with no phone line. And WordPress upkeep stays your job, though SPanel’s WordPress manager can run updates automatically once you switch them on.
What Is ScalaHosting?
ScalaHosting is a web hosting company. Web hosting stores your website’s files on a server that’s connected to the internet around the clock, so visitors can reach your site any time. ScalaHosting sells three main types of hosting.
- Shared hosting: Your site shares a server with other customers. It’s the low-cost option most course creators and coaches start on.
- Managed cloud hosting: Your site gets its own dedicated processor and memory, and ScalaHosting’s team manages the server for you.
- Unmanaged cloud VPS: A server you control fully, for developers and agencies who want to run it themselves.
Its best-known product is SPanel, a free control panel ScalaHosting built as an alternative to cPanel, the panel most hosts license. SPanel comes with security, WordPress and AI tools built in. ScalaHosting isn’t a course platform, so you’d pair it with a course plugin such as LearnDash or link your site to a platform like Thinkific.
| ScalaHosting is | ScalaHosting is not |
|---|---|
| Low-cost shared hosting with cloud plans to grow into | A course platform with built-in enrollments and video hosting |
| Built around SPanel, its own free control panel | A fully managed WordPress host with a team watching your site |
| Backed by an anytime money-back guarantee | A host with phone support |
| A host with daily offsite backups and email included | Cheap at renewal. The low price needs a long upfront term |
What Do You Get With a ScalaHosting Web Hosting Account?
A ScalaHosting account gives you the essentials to run a website, with a few extras most budget hosts don’t include.
- Storage space for your website: Space on fast NVMe drives for your website’s files and pages, from 10 GB on the entry plan.
- A free domain name: A custom web address, such as yourname.com, from the second plan up.
- Professional email: Mailboxes on your own domain, such as hello@yourname.com, on every plan.
- An AI website builder: A tool that drafts a WordPress site for you to edit.
- One-click WordPress installation: WordPress set up for you, with a WordPress manager for updates, security and staging in SPanel.
- Daily backups: Automatic daily backups stored offsite, restored in one click.
- A free SSL certificate: The padlock in the browser bar, for every site.
- Built-in security: SShield, ScalaHosting’s real-time security tool, on SPanel plans.
- Free migration: ScalaHosting’s team moves your existing website and email for you.
- 24/7 support: Live chat, email and tickets, any time.
How I Evaluate a Web Host for a Course Business
I’ve built and run websites for my own businesses for more than 20 years. I sell my courses on Thinkific, Learning Revolution runs as its own WordPress site and the Leading Learning Podcast has its own website too. We run Learning Revolution on WP Engine, with WP Rocket for caching and Smush for image compression, and I’ve hosted other sites on Bluehost since 2015.
That gives me a feel for both ends of the market. Here’s the checklist I use, and how ScalaHosting compares.
| What I check | Why it matters for a course business | How ScalaHosting does |
|---|---|---|
| Backups | One bad plugin update can wipe out sales pages or sign-ups | Daily, stored offsite, on every plan |
| Room to grow | Course and membership sites need more power as students arrive | Cloud plans with dedicated resources at a modest price |
| Renewal price | Hosting is a long-term cost, so year four matters as much as year one | Two to four times the intro price |
| Risk when you sign up | You want a way out if the host doesn’t suit you | Full refund in 30 days, then a refund for unused time |
| Support | When a sales page breaks, you want help quickly | 24/7 chat, email and tickets, no phone |
| You need a professional address from day one | Included on every plan |
ScalaHosting’s strongest scores come from the growth path and the refund terms. If you think your course business will outgrow shared hosting in a year or two, those two points carry a lot of weight.
If you haven’t built a site before, my guide on how to create a WordPress website walks you through it.
ScalaHosting Pricing and Plans | How Much Does It Cost?
ScalaHosting sells three shared hosting plans, Mini, Start and Advanced, plus Entry Cloud, its smallest managed cloud plan. The prices below are its regular rates on the 36-month term. I’ve ignored short-term sales such as Black Friday, which come and go.
| Plan | Billed annually (per month) | Key limits | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mini | $2.95 | 1 website, 10 GB NVMe storage, shared resources | Renews at $11.95/month |
| Start | $5.95 | Unlimited websites, 50 GB NVMe storage, free domain, shared resources | Renews at $14.95/month |
| Advanced | $9.95 | Unlimited websites, 100 GB NVMe storage, free domain, shared resources | Renews at $19.95/month |
| Entry Cloud | $14.95 | Unlimited websites, dedicated 2 CPU cores and 2 GB RAM, SPanel, priority support | Renews at $39.95/month |
Each plan has two prices worth knowing. The intro price applies to your first prepaid term, shown here for 36 months, with 12-month and monthly terms also offered. The renewal price is what you pay once that first term ends.
Mini costs $2.95/mo on a 36-month term. It covers one website and 10 GB of NVMe storage, with daily offsite backups, email and free migration. It doesn’t include a free domain.
Start costs $5.95/mo. It adds unlimited websites, 50 GB of storage and a free domain, which makes it the better value for a course business that may add a podcast or membership site later.
Advanced costs $9.95/mo for unlimited websites and 100 GB of storage. Entry Cloud costs $14.95/mo and moves you to a cloud server with dedicated processor cores and memory, SPanel’s full security tools and priority support.
| Feature | Mini | Start | Advanced | Entry Cloud |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Websites | 1 | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| NVMe storage | 10 GB | 50 GB | 100 GB | Scalable |
| Server resources | Shared | Shared | Shared | Dedicated 2 cores, 2 GB RAM |
| Free domain | ✗ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Email hosting | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Daily offsite backups | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Control panel | SPanel or cPanel | SPanel or cPanel | SPanel or cPanel | SPanel |

The Renewal Price Shock, Explained
ScalaHosting charges a low intro price for your first term, then its regular rate. Renewal costs about four times the intro price on the entry plan and two to three times on the others.
| Plan | Intro price (36-month term) | Renewal price |
|---|---|---|
| Mini | $2.95/mo | Renews at $11.95/month |
| Start | $5.95/mo | Renews at $14.95/month |
| Advanced | $9.95/mo | Renews at $19.95/month |
| Entry Cloud | $14.95/mo | Renews at $39.95/month |
When I plan a hosting budget, I use the renewal price as the real cost and treat the intro price as a three-year bonus. Here’s how to keep renewal from catching you off guard.
- Pick the 36-month term if you’re committed. It locks in the intro price for three years.
- Budget for the renewal price from day one. Treat it as your real long-term hosting cost.
- Check your renewal date in the client area. Set a reminder a month ahead so you can compare options calmly.
- Plan for the domain renewal. Your free domain renews at the normal price after the first year.
Cloud Upgrades and Other Costs
Most course and coaching sites won’t need extras on shared hosting. On cloud plans, you can add resources as your site grows, which is one of ScalaHosting’s main strengths.
| Extra | What it does | Do you need it? |
|---|---|---|
| More CPU cores | More processing power for busy, dynamic pages | When course dashboards or checkout slow down under load |
| More RAM | More memory for logged-in users and plugins | For membership sites with many active members |
| More NVMe storage | Room for more sites, files and backups | Only if you store large files on your server |
| Extra backup copies | Keeps more backup versions on cloud plans | For stores and sites that change daily |
| cPanel license | The cPanel control panel instead of SPanel | Skip. SPanel is free and covers the same jobs |
Course videos use a lot of storage and bandwidth, so host them on a video service such as Vimeo or Bunny and embed them on your site.
Refund and Cancellation Costs
This is where ScalaHosting stands out. Its terms of service offer new clients a full refund within 30 days of purchase, or a partial refund for the unused part of your plan at any time after that. It covers web hosting, reseller hosting and VPS hosting.
Dedicated servers, SSL certificates, domains and software licenses aren’t covered. If you take the 30-day refund on a plan that came with a free domain, you pay for the domain at its normal price. For a 36-month prepayment, the anytime refund removes much of the risk of paying three years upfront.
Which ScalaHosting Plan Should You Choose?
Choose based on how many sites you need and how much server power your site will use. Here’s what I’d pick in each situation.
| Your situation | Plan to choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Coach or course creator with one new website | Mini | Lowest cost for a single site with backups and email |
| Course business with a blog, lead magnets and sales pages | Start | Unlimited websites, more storage and a free domain |
| Independent expert with a podcast site or several brands | Start or Advanced | Room for many sites on one plan |
| WordPress course or membership site with active students | Entry Cloud | Dedicated processor and memory for logged-in pages |
| Small business with an online store | Entry Cloud | Dedicated resources and priority support for checkout |
| Agency hosting many client sites | A larger managed cloud plan | Scale cores and memory as clients grow |
If you’re unsure, start with Start. It’s the plan I’d recommend to most edupreneurs, because unlimited websites and a free domain cover what a growing course business needs, and you can move up to cloud hosting when your student numbers grow.
ScalaHosting Features in Detail | What Can You Do With This Host?
ScalaHosting’s features center on SPanel and on giving you room to grow without changing hosts. Here’s each major feature, what it does in plain terms and where it stops, followed by a closer look at the ones that matter most for a course or coaching business.
| Feature | What it does | Where it stops |
|---|---|---|
| SPanel | A free control panel for sites, email, files, backups and security | Takes a short adjustment if you know cPanel |
| WordPress manager | Installs WordPress and handles updates, security and staging from one screen | You switch on automatic updates yourself |
| Daily offsite backups | Automatic daily copies stored on a separate server | Extra backup copies cost more on cloud plans |
| SShield | Real-time security monitoring that blocks attacks and alerts you | Included with SPanel, not cPanel |
| Email hosting | Mailboxes on your own domain on every plan | Hourly sending limits per domain |
| Cloudflare CDN integration | Serves your pages from locations near your visitors | You connect it from your panel |
| Free migration | ScalaHosting moves your website and email for you | Test forms and checkout after the move |
| AI site builder and Skai | Drafts a WordPress site, and an AI assistant in SPanel builds sites and apps from your description | Skai uses your own AI account, which you pay for |
| Cloud scaling | Add processor cores, memory and storage as you grow | Only on cloud plans |
| 24/7 support | Live chat, email and tickets | No phone support |
Feature #1: SPanel
SPanel is ScalaHosting’s own control panel, and it’s included free. You use it to add websites, create email accounts, manage files and databases, restore backups and check security. It works much like cPanel, the panel most hosts use, so the main menus will feel familiar if you’ve used another host.
Why it matters to you is cost. Many hosts pay a license fee for cPanel and pass it on in their prices, especially on cloud and VPS servers. SPanel removes that cost, which is a big reason ScalaHosting’s cloud plans are cheaper than most. You can still choose cPanel on shared plans, though SShield and some WordPress tools only come with SPanel.
Feature #2: The WordPress Manager and Staging
SPanel’s WordPress manager installs WordPress in a few clicks and lets you manage updates, security settings and staging copies of each site from one screen. A staging copy is a private version of your site where you test changes before visitors see them.
Switch on automatic updates for minor WordPress releases, and test plugin updates on a staging copy before major changes or launches. Check your opt-in forms, checkout links and course links on the copy first, then push the change live.
Feature #3: Daily Offsite Backups
Every plan backs up your site daily and stores the copies on a separate server, so a problem with your main server doesn’t take your backups with it. You restore a backup in one click from your control panel.
For a course business, that’s the right baseline. I’d still take a manual backup before any big change, such as a theme switch or a new membership plugin, and keep a monthly copy of important sites somewhere outside your host. Our website security tips explain why.
Feature #4: SShield Security
SShield is ScalaHosting’s security tool. It watches your sites around the clock, blocks attacks as they happen and alerts you if something looks wrong. SPanel also includes a firewall and a WordPress login lock that makes brute-force attacks harder.
Every site also gets a free SSL certificate. Add strong passwords, two-factor login and regular plugin updates, and you’ve covered the main risks for a course or coaching site.
Feature #5: Email Hosting
Every plan includes email on your own domain, so you can email prospects and students from an address such as hello@yourname.com. ScalaHosting also moves your existing mailboxes for you when you switch hosts.
Email sending is limited per hour for each domain, which is plenty for everyday messages. Send newsletters and course announcements through a dedicated email marketing tool. Our email marketing best practices guide explains what to look for.
Feature #6: Speed, the CDN and Cloud Scaling
ScalaHosting runs its plans on fast NVMe storage and integrates with Cloudflare’s CDN, which stores copies of your pages in data centers around the world so they load quickly for distant visitors. On cloud plans, you can also add processor cores, memory and storage as your traffic grows.
That scaling matters most for course and membership sites. Course dashboards and member areas change for each logged-in user, so they can’t be cached like public pages. Dedicated resources keep those pages responsive during launches. On Learning Revolution, we use WP Rocket for caching and Smush to compress images, and the same habits apply here. Our guide on how to increase WordPress site speed covers the rest.
Feature #7: Free Migration and Support
ScalaHosting’s team moves your existing website and email for you at no cost. After the move, test your forms, logins, checkout links and email before you point your domain to the new server, and avoid scheduling a move the week of a launch.
Support runs 24/7 by live chat, email and tickets, with priority support on cloud plans. There’s no phone line, so write down the broken page and what changed right before it broke when you open a chat. That shortens any support conversation.
ScalaHosting’s AI Tools | Skai and the AI Site Builder
ScalaHosting offers two AI tools. Every plan includes an AI WordPress site builder that drafts a starter site. SPanel also includes Skai, an AI assistant announced in May 2026 that turns a written description into a working website or web app. It writes the code, sets up the database, deploys the files and runs tests.
Skai itself is free on all SPanel plans. It uses AI models such as Claude and Grok through your own account with the AI provider, so you pay that provider for the usage. ScalaHosting estimates that a simple landing page costs a few dollars in usage, and a full store or custom app costs much more.
| Tool | What it is | What it lets you do | Who needs it |
|---|---|---|---|
| AI WordPress site builder | A tool that drafts a WordPress site from your answers | Get a starter site live quickly | Coaches and small businesses building a first site |
| Skai | An AI assistant inside SPanel that builds sites and web apps from a description | Create a landing page, a simple tool or a custom app without hiring a developer | Creators comfortable testing and reviewing AI-built code |
For most course creators, WordPress with a good theme is still the safer way to build a main website, since you can edit it easily for years. Skai is more interesting for small extras, such as a one-off landing page or a simple calculator for a lead magnet. Review anything it builds before it goes live.
AI is already part of how many creators work. In a creator survey we cover in our elearning statistics, 57.3% of creators said they use AI daily. If you use AI to draft site content, my guide on how to humanize AI content explains how to keep it sounding like you.
Shared Hosting or Entry Cloud | Which Fits Your Course Site?
Shared hosting suits most course creators whose courses live on a platform like Thinkific. Your website is mostly public pages, such as your blog and sales pages, which load quickly from a cache.
Cloud hosting makes more sense once you run courses or a membership on WordPress itself, or sell through a busy WooCommerce store. Logged-in pages need the server to do more work for each visitor, and a cloud plan gives your site its own processor and memory.
| Your setup | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Courses on a hosted platform, website on WordPress | Shared hosting | Mostly public pages that cache well |
| LearnDash or LifterLMS courses on your own site | Entry Cloud | Dedicated resources for logged-in students |
| Membership site with MemberPress | Entry Cloud | Member areas can’t be cached as full pages |
| Several brand or client sites with modest traffic | Shared hosting, middle or top plan | Many sites for a low cost |
For more on running courses on WordPress, see our LearnDash vs. LifterLMS comparison and our MemberPress review.
When to Use ScalaHosting, and When Not To
ScalaHosting suits many growing course and coaching businesses. It’s the wrong choice in a few situations, so here’s how to decide.
| Choose ScalaHosting when | Look elsewhere when |
|---|---|
| You want low-cost hosting with an easy path to dedicated resources | You want a host to manage every WordPress update for you |
| You want backups, email and migration included | You need phone support |
| You want a refund option well beyond the first month | You want the lowest possible renewal price |
| You run a WordPress course or membership site that’s growing | You only need one tiny site and never plan to grow |
| You want to avoid cPanel license costs on a server | You rely on cPanel-only tools you won’t give up |
How Course Sellers, Coaches and Small Businesses Use ScalaHosting
Here’s what a sensible ScalaHosting setup looks like for each type of business.
- Course sellers on a hosted platform: Run your main WordPress site on the second shared plan with your blog, lead magnets and sales pages, and link to your course platform on a subdomain. Capture emails with a lead magnet on the site.
- Course sellers on WordPress: Start your LearnDash or LifterLMS site on Entry Cloud, test updates on a staging copy and add memory as your student numbers grow.
- Coaches and consultants: One site with your services, booking page and articles fits the entry plan. Add a blog over time to become known as an expert.
- Independent experts: Host a main site, a podcast site and landing pages for each offer on one plan with unlimited websites.
- Small businesses and stores: Move to Entry Cloud once you take orders, so checkout pages have dedicated resources.
If you run a membership on WordPress, our guide to membership website builder options covers the plugins. Whatever your setup, your website holds the content that builds your reputation, which we call authority assets.

Here’s the balance as I see it.
| ScalaHosting pros | ScalaHosting cons |
|---|---|
| Anytime money-back guarantee for unused time | The lowest price needs a 36-month upfront payment |
| Daily offsite backups and email on every plan | Renewal costs two to four times the intro price |

Is ScalaHosting the Best Web Host for Edupreneurs?
For edupreneurs who expect to grow, it’s one of the most practical choices. You can start on low-cost shared hosting, move to a cloud server with dedicated resources when your course or membership site needs it and keep the same control panel and support team throughout.
The anytime refund makes the 36-month upfront payment much less risky.
It isn’t the best fit if you want a host to handle WordPress for you, where Kinsta and WP Engine lead, or if you’re a beginner who wants the simplest dashboard, where Hostinger is easier.
Our guide on using SEO to sell online courses shows how your website supports your course sales whichever host you choose.
Should You Choose ScalaHosting?
Choose ScalaHosting if you want affordable hosting with daily backups, email and migration included and a clear path to dedicated resources as your course business grows.
Start on the second shared plan, or on Entry Cloud if you already run courses on WordPress, and lean on the anytime refund if it doesn’t suit you.
Skip it if you want a fully managed WordPress host or phone support. In that case, pay more for managed hosting, or pick a budget host with a phone line.
ScalaHosting Review FAQs
Here are short answers to the questions course creators and small business owners ask most about ScalaHosting.
Is ScalaHosting good for beginners?
Yes, for beginners comfortable with a little setup. ScalaHosting includes daily offsite backups, email, free SSL, an AI site builder and free migration, and its SPanel dashboard works much like cPanel. Support runs through chat, email and tickets, so beginners who want to talk to someone by phone may prefer a host with a phone line.
How much does ScalaHosting cost after the first term?
ScalaHosting’s renewal price is about four times the intro price on the entry plan and two to three times on the other plans, after the first 36-month term. The free domain on the second plan and up renews at its normal price after the first year. Budget for the renewal price from the start.
Does ScalaHosting have a money-back guarantee?
Yes, new clients get a full refund within 30 days of purchase, or a partial refund for unused time at any point after that, on web, reseller and VPS hosting. Dedicated servers, SSL certificates, domains and software licenses aren’t covered, and a free domain is charged at its normal price if you take the 30-day refund.
What is SPanel?
SPanel is ScalaHosting’s own control panel, included free on its plans. It manages websites, email, files, databases, backups and security, with a WordPress manager and the SShield security tool built in. It works much like cPanel, and it removes the cPanel license cost, which keeps ScalaHosting’s cloud plans cheaper.
Can I run online courses on ScalaHosting?
Yes, by installing WordPress and adding a course plugin such as LearnDash or LifterLMS, or by linking your site to a course platform like Thinkific. Shared hosting suits a website that links to a course platform. For a WordPress course or membership site with many logged-in students, Entry Cloud gives you dedicated resources.
Which ScalaHosting plan is best for a course or coaching business?
The second shared plan suits most course and coaching businesses, with unlimited websites, 50 GB of storage and a free domain. If you already run courses or a membership on WordPress, start on Entry Cloud for dedicated processor and memory. The entry plan works for a single new site.
What is Skai on ScalaHosting?
Skai is an AI assistant inside SPanel that turns a written description into a website or web app. It writes the code, sets up the database, deploys the files and runs tests. Skai is free on all SPanel plans, and you pay your AI provider, such as Anthropic or xAI, for the usage.
Does ScalaHosting include email?
Yes. Every ScalaHosting plan includes email on your own domain, and the team moves your existing mailboxes for free when you switch hosts. Sending is limited per hour for each domain, which suits everyday messages. Send newsletters and course announcements through a dedicated email marketing tool.
